End of Round One:
First rewrite completed ✓
First hangover since rewrite completed ✓
Sleepless night reviewing plot-holes ✓
Anxiety attack over length of time spent writing book ✓
Second hangover in the making ✓
But bit-by-bit, word-by-word, the task moves closer to completion and it will surely all be worth it in the end....

Well done. Time to rest up before the next edit! Editing is tough. Getting started is the hard part ( bit like the blank page). Good luck with next edit. Every step is one nearer publication.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather! I plan to take August off, if I can keep my paws off the book for that long :) I think I prefer editing more than any other part of the process; perhaps because it feels like I'm making real improvements by this point. The worst part is the re-read - and trying to work out why 1 chapter works brilliantly & another is rubbish! Hope things are good with you and you're writing too. :) x
DeleteI think you deserve to have August off even if only to practice your hangovers :) seriously though, well done on the first re-write. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissie! Enjoying it so far but it's flying by!! Hope you're well! :) xxx
DeleteWas that your name shortlisted in Writing Magazine?
ReplyDeleteReally?! Was it something to do with a submission for a critique? I don't buy WM - I got a free copy from the Nottingham Writers' Convention and sent a sample off (expecting nothing, as ever) for a free novel crit. I got an email saying the winner had been selected and notified & thought no more about it. Is it in the current issue? Would be interesting to see what it says. Unless you could take a picture of the page and email it to me?! Ha. I'll check their website, see if there's anything. It'll be a first anyway, a short-listing! Thanks for mentioning it! Hope all's well. :) xx
DeleteSorry for not coming back sooner. It was a critique competition and the results are in the August edition of Writing Magazine. Your name appears in the shortlist but unfortunately there are no comments. Well done. That must be encouraging and we all need that!
ReplyDeleteI am getting close to launching an online soap (if I don’t back out through fright!). The whole thing is written, similar to a novel but has multiple characters and stories – quick scene changes, a few longer ones. Thought I’d launch through Wordpress, not as user friendly as Blogger but seems to have more ‘traffic’. Doing the edits – final edit will probably occur as I go live! Very much an experiment. Any tips gratefully received! Hope all is well with you and your writing.
Hi Heather, I've now ordered August WM & still waiting for it. I too-hastily ordered the current issue (turned out to be September) after reading your 1st message but scoured it & found nothing, doh! Yes, it's a nice little boost. I would never have known anything about it had you not mentioned it, so thanks very much!! Your project sounds interesting, exciting and similar to mine! I guess you'll have gained a slight insight into undertaking a 'live' online event by following my rollercoaster ride! When is it up/live? Are you doing it alone? What kind of soap is it? I'm rooting for you. Off the top of my head, one tip before starting - choose the name for the blog carefully, because I don't think you can change it, or not easily, afterwards; especially once you've linked to places with it. I duffed up on this with my long-winded blog-name, I think because ABNORMAL was taken at the time. I will think on more tips once you've got it underway. Loads of luck, I feel for you already! :) xx
DeleteMy blog is now online after a lot of frustration getting to grips with Wordpress (it's a newer version so confused me further). The work is all mine (even the village map which I drew!). The blog is called Ashington (www.ashingtonblog.wordpress.com), the village where the story is set. The whole thing is written. I've done two edits, the final edit happens just before I publish each episode. It runs for 104 episodes, each between about 1,200 - 1,600 words. There is some background stuff on the blog too. I do hope people will like it as much I did writing it. My only worry is whether I have dragged things out too long. Time will tell. The first episode is on there, second one goes on tomorrow. Am publishing two episodes a week (Tues & Fri). If you like it, do share/recommend it to your friends etc. Thanks so much. I hope your editing is going well.
